Monmouthshire County Council is the authority for the county of Monmouthshire in the south-east of Wales, and includes the towns of Abergavenny, Caldicot, Chepstow and Monmouth.
Monmouthshire is one of the five local authorities in the Education Achievement Service (EAS) for South East Wales.
The school population is one of the smallest in Wales (fifth smallest) and numbers just over 11,000 students. The authority is responsible for 35 schools.
There are 30 primary schools with an average size of 208 pupils, ranging from Llanfihangel Crucorney Primary School near Pandy with c. 67 pupils to The Dell Primary School in Chepstow with just under 400 pupils.
There are four secondary schools, all with sixth forms. They have an average size of just under 1200 students, the largest average size for a secondary school in Wales.
There are no through schools in Monmouthshire.
There is one special school—Mounton House near Chepstow—which does not have post-16 provision.
There are two Welsh medium primary schools in Monmouthshire. There are no Welsh medium secondary schools in Monmouthshire.
