Caerphilly is a County Borough Council in South East Wales, north of Cardiff. The authority covers communities including Caerphilly, Bedwas, Risca, Ystrad Mynach, Newbridge, Blackwood, Bargoed, New Tredegar and Rhymney. 

Caerphilly is one of the five local authorities in the Education Achievement Service (EAS) for South East Wales.

The school population is the fifth largest in Wales, with c. 27000 pupils. The authority is responsible for 109 schools.

There are 73 primary schools with an average size of 219 pupils, ranging from Cwm Glas Infant School in Llanbradach with c. 65 pupils to Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School in Blackwood with over 570 pupils.

There are eleven secondary schools, seven of which have sixth forms. The average size of a Caerphilly secondary school is 915 students. 

There is one through school in Caerphilly (Idris Davies) which includes a sixth form.

Caerphilly has one special school—Trinity Fields—which has post-16 provision.

There are nine Welsh medium primary schools, and one Welsh medium secondary school in Caerphilly.
